Teaching

I have taught improv for over a decade, including “Intro to Improv” type courses for adults, corporates, and teens, various long form styles, and my own workshops that I have developed for specific skills and shows.

Matt created a great atmosphere to learn. Bringing energy to every class and I could see the skill level amount people rocket upwards

Matt provided enough time for specific exercises so that everyone could experience them. Matt was also quick to stop chatter and continue on with the workshop.

Matt was well organised, deliberate in the exercises we did. The side coaching, calling out and resources were great to reinforce knowledge.

Matt cares. His passion for improv rubs off on others. His style is direct but fair. He has a knack for guiding you in the right direction with well timed feedback.

Matt is extremely knowledgeable, he gives highly targeted feedback in the moment and lets us apply it right away. Often feedback is given and then students don’t get another chance to apply it for some time.

This course simplified some of the things I was overthinking. I also liked that it answered some questions I had and made me look at things I can do differently. Notes were good as I kept them and still refer to them after the course.

I thought it was a good mix of small group work and everyone together work. The drills were nice I’d like to practice them more

I think that my team mates joined me in doing this course really made a difference to our troupe shows. Which was a delight! so thank you!

I really liked how Matt encouraged us to keep moving quickly, maximising the reps and learning by experience. I also liked how he kept switching things up, from pairs to 3’s to performances. This approach kept things interesting and positive.

Matt is thorough, very supportive and cares about improvisers at all levels of experience. Questions choices without being negative.

Matt scaffolded all tasks in every workshop really well. All his objectives were clearly explained and it was evident where he wanted to take us. He has a fine eye for detail and gives feedback which is well considered and on-point. I feel he has our best interests at heart when he makes suggestions for improvement. It is clear he loves this art form as much as the rest of us.
